As Global Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Yau leads DEI strategy for BNY Mellon and its nearly 50,000-strong workforce, promoting DEI as drivers of organizational and individual engagement, performance and growth. She also engages with clients, peers, professional associations and nonprofits to share ideas, best practices and leverage broader stakeholder networks to accelerate DEI progress at BNY Mellon and across the financial services industry. Yau brings to the role her passion and expertise in inclusive leadership and harnessing the power of communications to build and strengthen talent experiences, client relationships and brand reputation.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Yau specialized in communications strategy at Deloitte Global, leading global initiatives focused on enhancing marketplace eminence, brand differentiation and client consideration. She has also led executive communications for Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management, where she supported the launch of new investment products aimed at serving the needs of diverse clients and markets. Past roles as Chief Marketing Officer for a tech start-up and Director of Marketing for a professional services company enable her to bring a valuable client focus to her DEI work. Yau started her career in financial services as an equity investment analyst, and has held roles in corporate development, M&A and private equity.
Yau has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana and a Digital Media Marketing certificate from New York University. She serves on Pace University’s Lubin School of Business Transformative Leadership Program Advisory Council. She is also a member of various D&I leadership forums, including The Conference Board’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Executives Council and SIFMA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
Yau lives with her husband in New Jersey and is the lucky stepmom to three boys. She enjoys cooking, hiking, biking and traveling. She has also designed jewelry and was twice featured in InStyle magazine.
