President, Prudential Retirement
John Kim is the president of Prudential Retirement, an industry leading full-service retire ment plan provider for small, mid and large plan sponsors in the corporate, public, non-profit and Taft-Hartley retirement markets. Prudential Retirement serves 3 million customers and manages $130 billion of retirement assets. It employs 2600 people.
Prior to this position, Mr. Kim was president of CIGNA Retirement & Investment Services,
one of the nation's leading asset management and retirement services firms.
Before joining CIGNA, Mr. Kim held chief executive and senior management positions at some of the nation's leading financial services companies. During 2001, he served as president and chief executive officer of BondBook, LLC. From 1995 through 2000, he served as president, chief investment officer and chief executive officer at Aeltus Investment
Management, an investment management subsidiary of ING Group. During his tenure, he
was credited with growing assets under management, increasing the breadth of investment
capabilities and improving the performance of the company's investment offerings.
Prior to that, Mr. Kim was managing director of Mitchell Hutchins Institutional Investors, and for 10 years at Aetna Life & Casualty, he was portfolio manager, investor relations officer and financial analyst.
Mr. Kim is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Hartford Society of Security Analysts, and the Association of Investment Management and Research. He holds NASD Series 7 and 24 credentials. Mr.Kim has an MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut, and a BBA degree in finance and accounting from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Kim has published numerous articles on investment and pension topics and has
appeared on radio and television programs including CNN, NBC, CNBC, and Bloomberg
News. He was also a regular panelist for 7 years on the popular show Wall Street Week
with Louis Rukeyser.
Mr. Kim is involved in several philanthropic organizations including Hartford Stage, Habitat
for Humanity and the Greater Hartford Arts Council. He also serves as Chairman of the
Board for the University of Connecticut Foundation, University of Michigan School of
Business Board of Visitors and was also the chair of the Insurance and Financial Services
Cluster for MetroHartford Alliance.
He is married to his wife of 22 years, Diane and has three children,Andrew, Emily and
Caroline. He enjoys golf, running, travel and reading.
