S. David Wu, PhD

President, Baruch College, The City University of New York


S. David Wu, PhD, Baruch College’s eighth president, is the first Asian American to lead a college of The City University of New York system. Dr. Wu brings a track record of bold, visionary academic leadership and industry expertise to Baruch—a public institution that provides a transformational education to more than 19,000 students. Previously, Dr. Wu served as provost and executive vice president of George Mason University. Under his leadership, Mason experienced historic growth in innovative academic programs, embraced multi-disciplinary collaboration, increased student diversity and academic outcomes, and became the youngest institution to receive Carnegie tier-one research designation. Dr. Wu also served as dean and Iacocca Professor of the Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University.

An accomplished scholar in systems engineering and operations research, Dr. Wu holds MS and PhD degrees from Pennsylvania State University and has published extensively on game theory and econometrics. The National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Defense, and Sandia National Laboratories have supported his research, and Intel, HP, and IBM have implemented or tested his field work. Dr. Wu has served on numerous boards including Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering, the NSF, the Science Foundation of Ireland, the Research Grant Council of Hong Kong, and the Science & Engineering Research Council of Singapore.

Dr. Wu is leading Baruch to be at the forefront of reimagining higher education, forging new strategic partnerships, and pioneering ways to produce the talents needed for today’s innovation economy.
