Dr. Geetha Murali is the CEO of Room to Read, an international education organization transforming millions of children's lives through literacy and gender equality programs. Under her leadership, Room to Read has expanded to 24 countries, benefiting over 39 million children.
With 25 years of experience in corporate and non-profit sectors, Geetha oversees 60 offices, 1,600 employees, and a global network of supporters. Her unique background combines corporate experience, academic expertise in quantitative and social sciences, and community-based work.
Geetha's impact has been recognized by Michelle Obama's education initiatives and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.. She is a sought-after speaker on social justice, education, and leadership, featured in international media outlets. She serves on the board of directors for the Global Press Institute and is a Founding Circle member and Social Impact Advisor for Neythri, a global community of South Asian professional women
A member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council and Young President's Organization, Geetha was named a CNBC Changemaker and recognized by WIRED as a future-shaping leader. Geetha received her master’s degree in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master’s and doctorate degrees in South Asian politics from the University of California, Berkeley.
