Alvina Lo is one of the highest ranking Asian American women in private wealth management. Her family once had wealth only for it to be quickly erased leaving them to start over. Her great grandparents, once wealthy in China, lost everything after Cultural Revolution.
Alvina immigrated to US at age ten, barely speaking English. Her father worked as a mailroom attendant and her mother worked as a bookkeeper. Lo was accepted to MIT and unable to attend due to cost. However, as a recipient of the Thomas Jefferson scholarship she was able to attend The University of Virginia.
Alvina is responsible for wealth planning, strategic advice, and thought leadership at Wilmington Trust, the Wealth Management division of M&T Bank. She oversees a national team of 30 employ- ees. Alvina was most recently recognized as one of Worth’s Groundbreakers 2020: 50 Women Changing the World. She is a published author and has done numerous lectures including at the American Bankers Association, American Bar Association and Delaware Trust Conference. After receiving her JD from the University of Pennsylvania, Lo practiced law at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and worked for Credit Suisse and CitiBank in their private wealth divisions. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and Women In America.
